After sharing this tip for many years I was asked to put this tip in a downlaodable pdf. You can read this saxophone tip with the "How To" pics at the DN Rhythm Website and download the pdf if you like.

Join in and share, how long does it take for you to feel "Warmed Up" and ready to play. How do you do it? How fast can you do it? I've seen some interesting methods used on gigs...what's your "warmed up" and ready to play method?

Breathe into sax, blow softly sans sound while fingering...about 30 secs. 20 or so mins. long tones...(C# for 5 mins. a la Keith Ridenhour, then descend to low C, 4 longest notes possible for each). Low Bb overtone series.
Thanks to Keith R. this warm-up, practice routine has paid real dividends for me, wrt tone and breath control.:treble::bass:
