Hi,
I have an 1919 Conn Bass wich was given to me by my music school a year ago. Last week it recieved a total restoration by the best tech in town.
Unfortunately I left the mouthpiece that came with it lying around in the bathroom and it got damaged (NEVER EVER LEAVE YOUR MOUTHPIECE AROUND; WHERE YOUR MUM OR GIRLFRIEND CAN GET THEIR HANDS ON IT!!!!).

For now I have an umarked backup piece, but thats not as good as the Conn piece.
Sooner or later I have to find a piece that plays good and maybe to give it to the music school/the techer who gave it to me.

What mouthpiece will be good for this horn. I still had a little trouble with the intonation on the conn piece.
I was very high in the upper register, I know I have to practice that, but maybe a good piece helps. I already figured out, I'm not able to handle my Tone Edge Bari Piece on bass, and it doesn't sound good either.

I'm playing in a rather classical setting so I guess a medium opening is good.
The Change Low Bb/C# at pp at "Pictures at an Exhibition" kills me every time :)
But we have some swing, jazz and boogie tunes as well, so I'm looking for a good allround piece!

Any suggestions.

best wishes

Chris

No offense kryz, but the rest of us already knew that ;)
We'll I knew that before but could have never thought that anybody will take a bass mouthpiece, a bari mouthpiece, 2 ligatures, two reeds and a bass neck with two hands and then tries to hand it over.
I tried to save the reed but I should have tried to save at least the more valueble items :)

best wishes

Hey, sometimes a good reed is harder to find than a good mouthpiece...;)

I played a 1918 Conn Bass in a big band setting for 15 years before switching to tenor. I used an old Berg Level Air bari piece that I loved. Around a 7 tip. Very powerful, focused tone. I could part your hair using a medium synthetic Bari reed. Try one if you can find one. You might like it.:)

Hi,
right nowI had a little chat with a few poeple about this.
First I talked to Eppelsheim. He has a few around, but is not willing to sell any of these, but he forwaded me to you Randy :) He recommended Zinner btw. and strongly suggested not to buy a Vondoren/Selmer.
Then I had a little chat with Zinner, he sounded like a jerk to me. Not very friendly, and he said, no chance this year. Also he said fixing won't be possible.
Then finally, after I knew my options, I talked to the guy whom this mouthpiece belongs to. He was quite sad, but very understanding. He wants and old Conn piece or very similar, but I should buy anything in a hurry. But for now its okay, if I buy something I like and he'll see If he likes it, too.
Now I need to call a few other guys around :)

best wishes

Chris
