Hi
I was just throwing this one out there,to see if anyone is playing on Barkley MPs

I have a Barkley Kustom Pop 7 that works great on my SA80 serie 1 Alto, and at the price (£100) it;s a lot of mouthpiece for not a lot of money ......It's a keeper for me.
The reason for the post is I want a little bit more edge so I'm looking at Barkleys "Melbec" or "Verdot" , they're both metal with a high baffle. (Around £275 )
Again at a Great price compared to the established Makes
This Barkley MP is for my TW Naryan Alto Sax ....Which I playon, more for Funk /Rock /RnB Gigs
Having played Dukkoffs D (mid 80s Wild),TW Durga 7(Great But needed an 8 and very expensive)..Brillart Level aire (OMG! 1984 lasted 15 minutes), a "Morgan Fry Metal" (Ok but realised after a month or 2 It's not what I wanted)
Unfortunately there's not a dealership in the UK for Barkley ....So Spain is the nearest Dealer for Barkley Brazil MPs

So has anyone out there played on one of these "Malbec" or "Verdot" pieces or tried one out .a little feed back would help as both pieces do the the same job from the looks of things

having returned a Barkley Vintage ZZ with ridiculously asymmetric rails I would want an easy return option. Asymmetric? I didn't even bother putting a reed on the table. Explore your in-store test-play options if they still exist.

Ok
Thanks for the advice ..I would have to purchase from La Musa ,Spain with a return policy, a pain but that's my only option ,..I'm still playing the POP 7 as my main piece and have no issues at all,and that was brought blind from Spain ...maybe your's was a one off ,or maybe not.
Barkley seem to have a strong following in Latin and south American countries, which is understandable as they're from Brazil....
Or I buy a High baffle piece from the SOTW market place and trial It ,I noticed a West Coast soul machine MP , maybe I'll consider an alternative choice
Anyone else with any experience on a "Melbec" or "Verdot"

Might explain why when I see ads for these there are no video clips of anyone playing them, just pictures showing the fancy engraving and bling etc. I assumed they were bad players, and maybe I was right (?)

The ones with fancy engravings are from another Brazilian maker. Neither are worth consideration IMO.
The market there is still young, with very limited access to quality competitive products made worldwide.

Ok I'm looking at other Options now, you've convinced me. West Coast Pieces any one!
However I did send an Email Enquiry on Barkleys Web site asking regards there Metal MPs, but a week later and no Answer.
There are Video clips of players Blowing Barkley Pieces mainly Latin /south american Players + Andrey Chmut , you just need to look.
In defence of Barkley, the Pop Kustom 7 blows great and true , a good Pro player friend of mine played It and although it wasn't to his personal taste ,Though It was a good piece and spent a good half hour playing It, he was amazed at the ease it blew through out the range, and loved the ease in getting Altissimo .
I'm putting a couple of Mouthpieces up for sale so I can get a new (secondhand) piece .

I have not been interested in the Brazilian mouthpieces only because there are so many other "known" options but the BO RPC copy bari piece I started playing is
so good and for $80 its a no-brainer.

Yes, but some of the "known" options are rediculously priced or lack the quality control.

I've received my Barkley Vintage ZZ mouthpiece this afternoon. It is very consistently made and fun to play. Here is a clip of me playing it. https://soundcloud.com/johngist%2Fjust-the-way-you-are-jg-sax

There's an official dealer in Italy.
And there were many for sale used in Italy... Verdot and Malbec.

Here one:

I had a great experience with a Barkley King back in the 2009. Beautifully made, but not what I needed at that time.
The resin seamed too sensitive to me...
Back in those days... they were insanely cheap.

Check the Absolute "Plus".
Stainless steel, hand made, state of the art ligature included... there are plenty of reviews here on SOTW.

YouTube educator, Scott Paddock endorses them. He's a rather good player. I'm curious about the two models you mention, also. I'm very happy with a Wanne Amma 8 and Gaia2 9 but always lookin!

Hello everyone,
Lester Clancy here.

Back in 2020, I purchased new and still have both the following 2 Barkley alto sax mouthpieces.

a) Barkley hard rubber alto Kustom Pop 7 (red/black marble swirl) from eBay

b) Barkley gold metal Verdot 7 directly from Barkley Brazil website... (had to pay an extra $50.00 to have it shipped from Brazil to the United States... Ohio by the way).

The Kustom Pop is a screamer similar in sound and design to the Vandoren Jumbo Java (which I also had at that time). I kept the Kustom Pop and sold the Jumbo Java.

As far as the Verdot... I only used it a couple of times (an hour tops) ... as I liked the sound and very free-blowing aspect of my metal Jody Jazz DV better. All things considered, I wished I had ordered a Verdot 8 facing instead of the Verdot 7 for a more open sound. Nevertheless, l kept the Verdot 7 because I didn't want to pay the shipping cost of sending the Verdot 7 back to Brazil to exchange it for a Verdot 8 facing, and then have to pay another $50.00 to have Jr. Barkley send the Verdot 8 sent back to me.

So, I've kept the mint condition Verdot 7 and all of its original contents (tubing, pouch, ligature, and mouthpiece cap) in storage in hopes of selling it to someone here in the United States. And now that tax return season is here, I think now's the perfect time to do so.

If you're interested in the sound of the 2 Barkley mouthpieces shown above (whether out of curiosity or for purchase of said mouthpiece, please check out the following two YouTube sound clips of two professional saxophone artists demonstrating their Barkley Verdot mouthpieces. You may need to cut and paste the links onto your browser window.

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing | @Felicity saxophonist & @Andrey Chmut saxophone solo. (Duet with both using a Barkley Verdot metal alto sax mouthpiece).

Felicity review and comparison of Metal Barkley Verdot alto sax mouthpiece to three other alto sax mouthpieces. 2)

Also, check out the following YouTube sound clip of the Barkley Kustom Pop professional saxophonist Scott Paddick

The two Barkley mouthpieces I've purchased are made with excellence, quality, and care. I have also decided to sell my hard rubber Kustom Pop as well as my Verdot since my main go-to mouthpiece has been and still is my Jody Jazz DV.... an all-around mouthpiece as far as I'm concerned. I also just ordered/purchased a new metal Jody Jazz DV NY (New York model) to complement my standard Jody Jazz DV mouthpiece. It's currently on backorder and is supposed to be shipped sometime this week. So, any money I receive from the sale of either or both of my Barkley mouthpieces will offset the $550.00 of my soon coming JJ DV NY mouthpiece (also with a #7 facing).

My Kustom Pop has been used very little and shows no sign of wear on the table (reed side) or on the biteplate area whatsoever (since I've always played it with a thick rubber mouthpiece cushion. It is in very good / very great condition. The only reason I can't classify it as being in mint condition is that THERE IS a ligature scratch on the backside of it (again not on the actual biteplate itself. It didn't come with an original mouthpiece cap or ligature.... but I will include a Rovner ligature and mouthpiece cap with it... as well as the protective black cloth mouthpiece pouch/bag it came in.

Check out the Barkley website for the selling prices of these mouthpieces. I haven't decided on a selling price yet but will entertain any reasonable purchase offer... even though for less the Barkley website price (and without the high shipping price you'd pay if you have Barkley sell and send you one from Brazil. This is for US buyers only! I will not sell or ship overseas, (including Alaska and Hawaii) or anywhere out of the country.

If interested contact me via personal email ([email protected]) or call me at my home (LANDLINE) number which is (419) 525-2629. This landline number will not receive or respond to text messages.
.

Please note I'll be posting these mouthpieces on and in the "Mouthpieces for Sale" section of this Sax on the Web site along with some other mouthpieces sometime this month if I don't get any offer from this post, in which my primary objective is to respond to the post itself and inform you of the quality sound of Barkley Brazil mouthpieces... at least of the ones I've personally purchased and tried.

Lester J. Clancy

P.S. Wasn't the Verdot mouthpiece Christmas duet simply amazing.

I've never played a Barkley myself, but many players are sounding wonderful with them on YouTube. Felicity can really play. I think If her mpc review doesn't sell the Verdot, Malbec, and Bellites, not much else will. I play a ARB 6, and Bellite myswld. Great playing by Felicity.

I didn't care for the sound of the 3-d printed mpc (the first one) compared to the others that were similar but more full.
