Possibly a Quantum. If so, similar to a Brilhart Level Air inside. A 14 is a big size - Runyon numbers run very low in the smaller sizes but then they get closer to normal in the larger sizes. A 14 should be about .125-.130.

Sorry, forgot to mention its a Runyon Jaguar #14 ,also it has a long bullet shaped cut in the baffle area that goes almost to the tip . Anyone out there played one ,what number reed did you have luck with ? thanks

Sounds interesting. You might start with a #2 or 2 1/2 and see how that goes. .125 is not terribly big for baritone. What you want to look for in addition to how it sounds/plays is intonation, particularly in the palm keys. Always use a tuner when trying new stuff or when just practicing. You can get a free phone app. I found a couple of fuzzy pics, and it definitely looks interesting. Probably aren't many of these around.

That is the jaguar ,I have never seen a bullet type cut in the what I think is a fairly high baffle go that far to the tip . I will be getting it in the mail in a week or so , am hoping that cut is there for a use full reason such as intonation . The ligature on the pictures you posted will be something I will be looking for as it comes without one . Thanks for the tip on using a tuner when sorting out sound . I have been using a Rico b5 Graftonite with #2 reeds. Being a novice , this piece looks to be a new ball game .

Probably too much mouthpiece for a 'novice', particularly one who has been using a very mild set-up. If you have been playing a 2 on a 5, you might struggle to play the 14 with any reed. The extended 'bullet cut' would be done to affect sound and probably would not affect the intonation tendencies of the mouthpiece. Some mouthpieces with open facings still manage to be easily playable. I had a 1960s Berg Larsen for baritone that was 130/1 and I could play a #3 reed on it. The mouthpiece actually looked even more open than that but I never had it measured. So maybe there is a chance you can play the Jaguar with a #1 or 1 1/2 or even one of your older #2s.
I don't know about the ligature - I would use one of the Rovners on it.

The Jag design is the same as the Smoothbore but with the “bullet” hogged out in the baffle. It was Santy’s last new design before he passed. The bullet is actually a cylindrical groove machined at an angle into the baffle. I did the same modification once for a client to convert his Smoothbore into a Jaguar.

With that tip opening just watch out that you do not bite the palm keys sharp.

I wouldn’t invest money into the ligature in the first picture. It’s a Silverstein and will cost you a pretty penny. It’s a good ligature, but probably not worth it on bari for what you are looking for. A good old Rovner will be great. The Runyon Quantum has more punch and power than the Jag, but it’s also a neat piece.
Like ANY mouthpiece, put the air through it, and you’ll work your way into it. Don’t think it’s too much for you. Keep working at it and your tone will improve up and down the horn.

Yep, that's a known forum bug. Moderators don't have the capability to fix it. The sysadmins don't care to fix it. It's pushing on to a year without resolution.

I remember being at Santy's house and seeing the design drafted on a piece of paper. He was quite proud of the design. A friend of mine used to work for him and helped with the design and production of this piece.
It's a shame that Santy couldn't stick around a bit longer and give the world a few more designs.
