Hey everyone, I have an audition for BOA's Jazz Band of America, and I am suppose to play only ONE standard. I was thinking what you guys may suggest? I have all the way till November, so I rather have something challenging. I was thinking maybe Giant Steps on Alto and maybe a ballad like Body and Soul on tenor?

Please offer your suggestions!

I thought you said ONE standard. GS and BS would be two standards.

Also, how many choruses are required?

Have you considered Green Dolphin Street? I think that would be good tune because it lends itself to showing off both melodic and technical playing (ie nailing the changes on the second b section would be impressive).

Is this a live audition?
if so - would you be playing both tenor/alto auditions at the same time - by which I mean, would the judges know that it was you playing both auditions. If so then I think coupling giant steps with a ballad would work. I just wouldn't suggest giant steps if it was the only piece.
