Happy Juneteenth, SOTW! Here's one of my favorite ballads, written by one of my all-time musical heroes, Herbie Hancock. The original version of "Alone and I" is great, of course, from Herbie's debut solo album, but Mark Turner's take on "Ballad Session" is a really influential recording for me. I've also been producing a lot of ambient electronic/instrumental music lately, so I adopted that kind of vibe for the track I built to play along to.
I love the changes on this tune, they're haunting and beautiful.
As awful overall as this pandemic crisis has been, it HAS gotten me in the habit of recording and posting videos more regularly. And in turn, that's gotten me working on a bunch of beautiful tunes that I haven't played enough over the years. I'm grateful for a little silver lining these days!
Fabulous stuff.
I hope you're happy with the comparison, but it reminds me of the Haden/Brecker/Mehldau/Blade 'American Dreams' a bit. In a great way. Congratulations.
And yeah, great tune - I really didn't know it. Cheers.
I certainly have no complains about that comparison, I appreciate it very much!
