Just heard a unique trio that recorded in the 70s. I think they are British but don't know much about them. I believe the sax player Ron Aspery may have passed away in the early 2000s. The Bass player is Colin Hodgkinson and drums Tony Hicks. I think they may have supported Return to Forever at Ronnie Scotts and Chick Corea may have had a hand in getting them recorded. Outside of that, I don't know much else. Anyone shed any light on this trio?

Back Door are one of my favourite groups. Their album Back Door is really essential listening. Ron played curved soprano ( Buescher stencil with an alto reed)
and a King Super 20 alto...his playing often put me in mind of a funky Ornette Coleman...beautiful folksy lines, very chromatic and fluid..quite unique. There's clips of the band on Youtube and plenty to read if you dig about. They recorded a couple more CD's and there's a live BBC one. The first is the best.
