I'm not sure what discussion could ensue from this but I just wanted to share my joy with people who understand :D . I'm a college freshman this year and I'm not playing much bari at the moment(sax quartet) but I was planning on auditioning for symphonic band and the top jazz band on bari next semester. I've played quite a bit of bari through high school as well. I've been hinting at my parents that I've wanted a bari for probably 3 years now and my mom decided to call the local music store and they told her about how Leblanc lost the stencil contract with Yani. The store had 3 horns and they have one of them left. I played one of these for about 4 months last year and absolutely loved the range of dynamics and the wonderful ergos. We've got mostly YBS-62s at school and I just can't get along with them. I came home for Thanksgiving tonight and my mom told me I needed to go to the store tomorrow and check out the baris. They also have a Low Bb Mark VI that I'm going to try, if its in good shape its a steal at 4500 dollars. I'm pretty excited. I'll probably end up paying for it myself somehow or another but it is nonetheless exciting for me.

Good for you! I'm sure one of those horns will work out just fine for you. I'd love to have a bari myself...however, I can't justify owning one since I don't really play anywhere these days.

They actually had 2 of the Leblanc/B901s along with the VI. The poor VI was a school horn that had seen a lot of usage. Didn't look like any dents still on it, but the lacquer was pitted everywhere. Nonetheless I was excited to give it a blow. It really wasn't too good, dissappointingly. Cost 4500 as opposed to 4000 for the Yanis. Both of the Yanis were great horns, one responded a bit better. They're holding it for me at the moment, I need to get a loan before its mine. Thankfully I couldn't play my Metalite in tune on the horn, makes me feel better about getting ready to sell it(hopefully you like it Anselmo!). The Yani HR 5 and my HR Link worked great though. Low A goes from whisper to bark just like you want, everything is nice and even, and the altissimo is very easy. Can't wait.

How exciting, congrats on a great horn! I played a Vito VSP when I got to college and have never forgotten it. As a matter of fact I ended up with an older Yani Vito (B6) and last year got the opportunity to upgrade to a B991. They have all been great horns, you can't go wrong!

Hey! You're in Indiana! What shop are you buying from?

Well, I got my bari a few days ago. I absolutely love it. Wonderful huge tone with my Erik G HR Link and beautiful haunting classical tone with the Yani 5 mouthpiece that came with it. I think I'm in love.. :D
