How about this, purchased a 'B Stock' Warburton D 7 tip opening series soprano mouthpiece.

This is what it looked like when it arrived. More like F stock to me. I've never seen such a horribly crooked tip. Looks like a Flintstone mouthpiece.

Anyone know who are these made by for Warburton? And more to the point how did this ever get shipped by Warburton to a retailer?

Mr. Warburton has a shop in Florida. When I visited there with some trumpet friends, I tried sax necks and saw mouthpieces. I don’t think I tried any of the mouthpieces as I was more focused on the modular neck. (Very cool stuff!)

There is a separate person that works on saxophone gear including mouthpiece refacing.

Basically, I am just sharing that as far as I know, Mr. Warburton doesn’t just stamp his name on crap from China like some would possible assume.

So this both means that they build their own stuff, and that what you purchased somehow left the factory looking like that. To be fair, we at SOTW are used to seeing pristine mouthpiece work. Many people may buy stuff like that mouthpiece and just not know any better.

Haha - nice one Grumps!! We'll never know I guess.
You're a good sport and I know just the feeling having returned visibly defective mouthpieces in the past... that I also wouldn't grace with a playtest. Glad you got your money back and good luck on the hunt.

In the case with many mouthpieces I've played over the years (not every time) but there have been some remarkable playing mouthpieces that looked to have crooked, un-even facings and on the other hand I've seen mouthpieces that looked immaculate but just did nothing for me when I played them. Right off the bat if you buy something that was already returned before , buyer beware...there is a reason it was returned.

That Warburton looks like Berg Larsens I had encountered in the past. An ebonite tenor bought new with a similar appearance of the tip. Played ok but at its regular price i went back to the shop. A brass baritone piece I acquired through Ebay had a very crooked facing, the table was warped to the naked eye. No return feasible with this deal. There is a reason why some manufacturers have a questionable reputiation. I keep a distance now from Berg Larsen.

I foolishly bought a B stock mouthpiece from a well known boutique mouthpiece maker. It was B stock due to a plating issue, so they said. No returns, played terrible and badly needed a reface. It did turn out as a very good player thanks to Jimmy Jensen. I will not "out" the maker and will never deal with them again. No returns is a terrible business model and I was foolish.
