I came across an ad for one of these. From what I have read, they are the intermediate line of horn for B&S. Any one happen to know how much difference there was between this line and the "pro" line of horns?
You can look at my thread about B&S models: http://forum.saxontheweb.net/showthread.php?130237-List-of-B-amp-S-brands-and-stencils. If your 1000 has a III written on it, it has some improvements in the key mechanism. I've never played a model 1000. Some people have said they are the same body tube as the model 2001/Medusa tenor. Other people have said it's more of an intermediate model.
According to the B&S catalog, the series 1000 was also known as the Classic Line. They had single post construction and were available in 4 different finishes: gold lacquer, black nickel plated, silver plated and sand finish.
