Hello all,

I'd like to recommend 'Avel Sound Concept', Maxime Evan's, excellent mouthpiece refacing services located in Singapore. In my experience, Max's work is equal to and surpasses many of the incredible refacers out there, past and present. Over many years, I've had pieces done up by fantastic refacers, including Doc Tenney, Mark Spencer, Greg Weir, Mouthpiece Guys, Mojo and many more. All of these individuals are or were, outstanding (as are plenty more), however, Max is certainly on the same level and offers so much. His ridiculously low pricing, fast turnaround time, great communication and personal involvement with the process are a privilege to experience. He's very creatively problem solved for me with pieces that were quite unique and his suggestions have all been spot on in the end. He's been the best 'bang for buck bargain' I've found in a long time, down to earth personally and very easy to deal with, please consider his services with confidence, you will be amazed by his work and personal countenance, thanks for reading, DC

Hi DC,

Thanks for the kind words and for entrusting your confidence in my services, it means a lot to me.

It is a real pleasure working together on your mouthpieces. It is always great to exchange with demanding players like you, it helps me push the envelope, develop new techniques and think outside the box.

Thanks again!
Max

PS: Looks like I need to increase my rates! :bluewink: Joke aside, I don't do this to get rich, I just like to see people smile when they play for the first time on a properly set-up mouthpiece (and if it helps fund my mouthpiece addiction then I am happy).

I also highly recommend avel sound. I received a rs berkeley chris potter that was dead and tubby and Max transformed the piece into a monster player. It's effortless to play and full of character. It seems that Max is as good as any well known refacers out there and is charging very little for it.

another recommendation from me. I sent off an eastern music Guardala copy and received it back today - it was good before, it's even better now. Really responsive, and the higher register sounds a lot fatter and smoother. Really fun to play. Also received one of his bass clarinet mouthpieces which is a huge improvement on my Fobes Nova - a much bigger, richer sound and again very responsive.

This was my first experience with having someone modify a mouthpiece for me - you read some horror stories on here about the "big names" keeping pieces for months, running off with your cash, not responding etc...but Maxime was very communicative and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I am glad you like the re-worked Eastern Music pieces and my ASC Bass Clarinet mouthpiece!

Another strong recommendation from me. I had Maxime reface a SYOS Michael Wilbur tenor, a SYOS Dayna Stephens soprano and an Eastern Music DG copy. They were all improved, I notice especially big differences in the SYOS tenor piece and the DG copy! In addition Maxime is very easy to communicate with and he is super responsive, and has lots of interesting thoughts about mouthpieces. I ended up explaining a few mouthpieces that I like, and he looked up the facing curves that he had measured for those and based the pieces on those.

Thanks @malteof, the SYOS Wilbur was a very nice surprise after the work.

I’d like to add to this thread and say that Max is simply a pleasure to deal with on every level. After reading Dusty’s thoughts, and having known Dusty and his playing and teaching experience for a while now, I sent Max 3 mouthpieces to test him out- a stock Selmer super session, Morgan Indiana and a botched modern tenor STM link.
His execution of what I asked for was exceptional, and puts some other name refacers to shame in terms of communication, ability to work WITH you (rather than just implementing the status quo) and turn around time.
I since bought a TM EB tenor mpc from him that is also wonderful.
And, his own alto and tenor mouthpieces are INCREDIBLE value....I can’t say that enough.
Anyone looking for a high quality/low cost mpc should get in touch with him, they are awesome.
Now.....Max.....make a bari mouthpiece!
Highly highly recommended!

I’ve been recommending Max to everyone. He’s a friend, great person, and a great refacer.
He is putting out excellent mouthpieces for very little money. I wish him great success!!!
Thanks Mark, I really appreciate your continuous support!

Adding to this, I've now sampled 3-4 different pieces which were worked on by Max. All of them were amazing. Most recently, I acquired an Eastern Music Fat Boy he had worked, and it is truly something special. Never played a high baffle piece I liked this much on Tenor. It's incredibly powerful, insanely versatile, and as responsive as anything out there. Definitely bright, but full and with plenty of core. I was very amazed I liked this piece as much as I did (I don't get along with high baffle pieces on tenor). It's very well done! Head over to the SOTW Recordings section and you can hear my mediocre attempt at playing some rock!
