So, I'm planning on audition for college marching band on alto saxophone and was wondering if anyone knew of a good song? I'm looking for a song with some degree of difficulty to it, but not too note crazy so I can show off my tone a little. Any suggestions? Thanks! :bluewink:

You could do a movement from one of the following pieces:

Sonatine Sportive - Tcherepnin
Tableaux de Provence - Maurice
a transcription of a Handel or Haydn sonata

A Ferling etude would also be appropriate. It's a book of etudes originally for oboe.

Thank you so much for the response! I actually talked to one of my schools directors and she gave me a bunch of music to choose from. I ended up choosing a Haendel solo that was originally for flute. But I do have another question if you or anyone else can answer it. Which scales will I be expected to know? Chromatic obviously, but should I know all the major and minor scales? And how difficult is the average sight reading? I'm auditioning at University of Mount Union. I'm hoping to get scholarship money and get into their Wind Ensemble. Thanks again for your response!
