I'm doing tech stuff and the Weber Concerto Number 1 in my practice and never really did the Rose etudes to a performance level. Just curious if you guys did them as a freshman or sophmore in college? K

Even though I was a sax major at Univ North Texas, a hundred yrs ago, we were required to complete 2 years of clarinet and 1 yr of flute. I was introduced to the Rose etudes right away during my sophomore year. They are still great studies in 2011.

My first clarinet teacher, Irving Kleffman was a real "Rose 32 etudes guy" and started me early. I started them soon after picking up the clarinet when I was about 10 years old or so but wasn't "fluid" with them to the point of being able to preform them until years later. I used them mainly to warm up but didn't take them seriously for quite some time. Some of the etudes still stump me at age 53 and some are such a part of my memory that they are the first thing I play after putting the clarinet together.
