I had a request from family to play this song, and made a custom arrangement with a piano backing. Let me know what you think!

Wow - that's really impressive Jared!

There are some gorgeous harmonies in there, and also a couple of places where the melody line is shared between your different selves, in an almost call-and-response style, which sound great.

I particularly like the moments when one of you is playing the melody and the rest of you are playing behind the melody in a big fat harmonious backing!

My only suggestion for possible improvement is that there are maybe one or two places where, to my ears anyway, there might be a little bit too much going on. At these moments it seems like there are two or more melody lines competing with each other to be heard. At these points perhaps less might be more? On the other hand, maybe this device is part of your overall plan, and my reaction to it says more about my conservative tastes than it does about your arrangement!

But this minor quibble aside I think it sounds great, so well done!

Bill

Thanks so much Bill! I really took some extra time on this one to make it sound a lot less busy than my other multitrack recordings. I used a lot of dynamics and incorporated all the harmonies I could find. The song is a full featured solo, which generally holds the melody, although the background had 2-3 Soli's that took the melody. I tried to incorporate all of them, but sometimes they overlapped on the two parts and I left it like that. But I should have moved to a harmonizing part next to the melody again.

But I am very glad you liked it! I hope everyone else has enjoyed it as well!

Hey Jared. Great job man. You obviously spent a fair bit of time getting that one together. I like the interplay between the horns. Nice voicings. The timing works well. I'm impressed with your video skills too. Neat work all round I'd say. I also noticed your signature states the Mauriat Alto and Forestone reeds. That made me smile as I used to endorse Mauriat (I was their first Australasian endorser) and Forestone saxophones (I was their first saxophone endorser) up until 2 years ago (not their reeds though as I never quite got into synthetics much to my bank account's displeasure :) I still have a soft spot for both companies though and am glad to see their products up there mixing it with the big companies. I really enjoyed my times with Lars Heuseler (CEO Forestone) such a genuine and nice guy. He's based in Osaka and I visited there a few times to test saxophones and perform promo concerts as I did for Mauriat in Taiwan and China. The Forestone saxophones are excellent by the way. I also got to know the tech behind them Atsushi Watanabe as well as 2 people can get to know each other when neither speaks the others language. Very meticulous guy and excellent tech. I performed at many Chinese trade shows for Forestone alongside Atsushi who would spend each show putting together a saxophone from bare body to finished product. In between putting this one sax together over the period of 4 days he'd be inundated (almost) with various players and public members asking him to do tweaks and various repairs on their horns. Always did them and never charged.

Great to hear your arrangement. Do you have it on PDF form? Alex

That's so cool that you got to be an endorser for Mauriat and Forestone! I dream of being that good some day ;). I'd love to also get a chance to visit Japan and Taiwan in order to see some of these amazing saxophone shops and factories! Don't get much int'l travelling since I left the Marine Corps (although we didn't call it travel lol). I have heard great things about the Forestone and Ishimori saxophones coming from Japan. Not lucky enough to live near one. Very cool Story Alex!

I'm glad you liked the video and the voicings! I did take quite a bit of time, but writing out the piano part to get the backing created was a completely new endeavor for me. I dunno how people deal with writing out chords, its such a pain, even if I was mostly just transposing that. I do have the PDFs of each part, and I'd be happy to share it with you if you like.
