mcudahy was kind enough to post this on a thread about Art but I just thought it should get top billing since I feel it's so significant I started this thread dedicated to Lauri's project.

What I think is cool is that Laurie Pepper is making a film about Art. And then posting clips on YouTube. I was really struck by the film making, the mix of his voice with the music, the photos, memories... it's well done. And not like the usual jazz documentary (not that there's anything wrong with those, necessarily). I was sceptical when I heard about this film (NPR's "All Things Considered" had a story on it yesterday: "Art Pepper's Straight Life Goes Straight to YouTube"). But when I watched the clips, I liked what she was doing very much. BTW, the voice-overs of Art talking are from the same cassette tapes that formed the basis of the book, Straignt Life.
