The reason I ask, the woodwind and brass uk site is no longer there, neither is the bauhaus distribution web page.

I clicked on the link to woodwindandbrass on Just Saxes site, and was diverted to a page that said "BauhausDistribution.com is for sale".... Or have they ceased trading temporarily due to Covid19?

I reckon if anyone has a Bauhaus Walstein it would be worth holding on them. I suspect 2nd hand prices will go through the roof if they really aren't being made any more
I was a customer and have met the owners of the company a couple of times.

if they are no longer in business it would be sad, but I really don't think that they would acquire any extra value. Even B&S ( which was a maker and not a reseller of things made by others albeit with their quality control and action improvement ) after they no longer produced saxophones (they still produce brass instruments and are part of the Buffet grop after having been part of the SML group) never acquired value after they stopped , let alone going through the roof.

Aren't they just the same Chinese saxophones everyone else sells, with a different name engraved?
Not the ones I've played. There were a couple of brands that had some same characteristics, but none I've played had quite the big fat bottom end. But there are so very many Chinese makes these days you really can't generalise.

But my understanding is the Bauhaus (not Bauhaus walstein) were sourced from China, Taiwan and I believe some were Vietnam .

I can't really prove it other than poking around reviews, features, laquer, body and what not but I believe my Baritone was made by the same exact manufacturer of the Walstein because of the same rose copper and design of the thing. I paid around $2800 for it brand new from O'Malley music and I started playing Bari in my senior year of high school in 1995 and have got to put my hands on a small handful of Bari's and this is the best Bari I have ever played. Plays right out the box (they set it up for me in-house before shipping) and it's tone and all ends really rival the competition. I believe they modeled these after Yani's so it basically is a Yani Bari copy. So, anyway, I think these horns are still being made- same people, same company, just a small few businesses have gotten them to make them and then they stamp their house or own made up name on them. For the price, you will not find a better brand new Baritone Sax on any market.

That's odd because my BW baritone seems more like a Yamaha.

but either way I wouldn't assume similar design or material means same factory at all.

Couldn't agree with Pete more - never assume factories from Taiwan/China are the same (way too much misinformation being spread about that). Most all of the smaller factories are recreating based on Selmers, so they are bound to be very similar.

Sad to see BW is fading though, I was hoping to get a chance to try them. Love the look.

Pete is probably right / Yamaha- Yani. I probably can't tell as much as he could, surmising from all his input on threads here. However, that being said- I am not only discovering analogies - but factually stating the hands on experience to give me a good sense of the analogy.
