I have one, and definitely count myself blessed in that regard. I happened to be at Tenor Madness right when they got it in and bought it on the spot. I've owned and played a fair number of sopranos over the years. I had an SX90II that I got new around '99 and the Liebman is way out of its league. I currently have the Liebman, which I use a Selmer F metal mouthpiece and Superial 3 reed to complete the setup, and a solid sterling Series III which I play with a Yani metal 7 and Vandoren or Superial 3. My other soprano is an old school Yani S880. The Liebman has a really cool over-the-top jazz vibe and the Selmer can do either legit or jazz. The Yani is in need of a good setup but has a really sweet sound, kind of like a good mark vi which I suppose would make sense, since that's what they benchmarked for that model.
Both the Selmer and the Liebman are incredible horns and not something you'd see every day at the corner smooth jazz open jam night. They each have their strong points. I probably play the Liebman more than the Selmer, but can't say it's an overall better horn, just find that it cuts a bit more through the amplified electronic instruments with the setup I use. If I were to do a solo piece with just piano accompanying me, it would be a toss-up.
I love the ergos of the Liebman and I think the key setup on the oversized right hand side and pinkie keys is especially groundbreaking. It's a load of fun to play - I wish they had made more than the 13 total I heard were ever produced, because it's an amazing horn.
Just out of curiosity, how do you like your Drake Liebman mpc? I've been thinking of picking one up because I'm absolutely in love with the Drake Stan Getz legends piece I use on tenor, and hope the soprano piece is as good. The Selmer F metal I currently use is good as far as metal pieces go, I just want a non-metal piece for better tone but don't want to sacrifice the projection I get now.
Thanks, and sorry my first post here was so long. I'm a long-time forum lurker here and thought I'd give my $0.02 about my Liebman.
