Looks like it could be a SA80 with a long shank soloist?

Would be interesting (to me) if it is...comments on youtube say this was 1981, meaning Joe played it for 6/7 years!

EDIT: I don't see a high F#...it's probably his Mark VI?

Certainly appears to be a VI - round pearl for front F. Sometimes that's about all you have to go by. definitely a fat-sounding horn.

Didn't the SA-80 Series I also have the round front F pearl? Hard to see the bell to body brace.

That SA-80 Series 1 would have been brand new which is probably why it looks brand new. :bounce:

Not true. High F# - yes. Brass teardrop - no. You're thinking of Series II horns.

Exactly! The untarnished lacquer made me think it might be the SA80 I know he played around 1985-87.

I think this is probably a borrowed Mark VI (probably a later model than his 56K)? I've found some subsequent vid in the early 80s of Joe back on six

The horn in the video does not have the high F# so it’s not an SA80, probably a VI

Interesting about the original 80SA having the round pearl front F - I did not realize that. Kind of makes me want one except it definitely has the high F#.
