I am interested the Phil Tone designs, especially the Eclipse, NVL, and custom Link designs, but wonder if anyone has been able to compare these. I've listened to Steve Neff's clips, but he always sounds like himself. I like a round tone, warm without excessive edge, and a little bit of resistance. If anyone could compare these to the Drake Son of Slant, that would be helpful too.

so do we ;-)

I played the Eclipse and the SoS. Both pieces are excellent choices that will fit your sound concept IMO.
For me, the Eclipse projects better in the high register (very easy and solid altissimo) and the SoS has a richer low end. Both are very close and amongst the best HR pieces I have tried so far.

How can you possibly know what his "sound concept" is?

Man, I don't think I sound like myself on most of my clips. I listen to some and I think "Yeah!" and others I think "That's different........." From reading your description above I think the Eclipse might be a good choice. The New Vintage Slant might be cool to try also. I thought the New EB was brighter than you sound like you want. I didn't think warm when I played the new EB. I think warm when I play the Gerber hard rubber. The Eclipse is a bit brighter than that. Hope that helps.

That does help, and was kind of leaning toward the Eclipse. I just wish something like this was available in rubber. I have not yet found a resin (or whatever these are made from) that equals HR in warmth and beauty, though many play great.

Unless I missed something, the Eclipse is hard rubber.

I'll check with Phil. I have addressed this on another post (general mouthpiece): seems like there is less rubber content in current production pieces, compared, say to vintage Brilhart, etc. But I have not tried a Philtone (and would like to
