Don't know if a long signature is "wrong" but...

if this description is literal, sounds like it could attract some bad Karma....

I'm making my living as a composer-arranger for film/TV and commercials.

This allows me to take only the gigs I want to play. Jazz concerts, night clubs and the occasional jazz party and festival.

I wish I could blow jazz saxophone 100%, but the nature of the business has changed a bit.

I am 80 miles north of NYC - have about 40 nights of summerstock - hand full of Big Band and Club dates as well. Giging isnt my day job - however during the summer it almost could be.

Does making rent and utilities in a relatively high rent market count (around 2,000)? I have a day job but that's just to suport the wife and daughter and ensure that I don't have to drive more that 2 hours one way for a gig unless it REALLY pays. If I were single and could get a room somewhere I'd be back in business. :0

Never mind. Just let me know if you want me to delete this post.

Hey Duke, I've had this Alto over 20 yrs now so I'm probably cool by now..anyway Goldie damn near gave me his whole collection before he went. I'm sure he had 30-40 Selmers in his basement..but true I did still owe him the bread..As for the DG alto Pc..Alvarado got me for 5 bills..I still say I stole it. plus the winslow lig I got with it is priceless too..Works perfecto on my DG Tenor pc.(It sucked big time on the Alto pc) no wonder Tommy got rid of it..ha ha

summer's been busy

Can't complain. Have some good big band things coming up. Get to play with Louis Hayes in the Cannonball band in August. Need some time to shed a pile of music though. Seems like a lot of people have been busy this past couple of months. hard to find subs.

Lots of work available here in New Orleans. Plenty of club work, casinos, weddings, & conventions and the pay is the best it's ever been.
The quality of life since Katrina is nothing to brag about and studies show that tourism is down by 50% but live music is thriving. Many musicians didn't return after the storm so this may explain why the rest are so busy.

Cash, do you ever tour with Wayne Newton? I did a gig here in ABQ a couple of years ago, and there were two of his guys (alto and tenor), and I played bari.

Kevin Lawson still playing tpt? He and I were in school together for a minute in Chicago.

Is Pete Olstad in the section with you on TJ's band? He and I did Maynard's band together for a while. He's a hoot (to put it mildly) and a helluva trumpet man. You know, strong "upstairs".
