Hi, just curious how the Jody Jazz DV stacks up against the Guardala LT series. Where does it fall as far as brightness, is it more like the King or Studio or? How does it compare in fullness of sound and versatility with the Guardalas?

I've played all the new LT models including the Crecent most recently. Very disappointed. No comparison to the JJ DV which is rich, deep and fat sounding with nice med bright sound and very powerful. The new LT Guardalas are thin sounding and edgy, nothing like the classic hand made Guardalas. They look good like the DV's, but fail in the sound category from my experience.

Which hand made Guardalas have you played? My LT's play very much like my hand made Guardalas.
FYI I have 5 hand made and 5 LT's, and the pieces I have in both h/m and LT are Studio and Super King for tenor.

My teacher got a DV NY on trial and didn't dig it at all. He sent it back and stayed with his LT Studio. Is the regular DV a lot better than the DV? I can't imagine liking anything more than the Studio.

I've had three handmade Guardalas and the LT models compare very well. My Mojobari modified Studio kills them all but that is a special case. Compared the the JJ DV it is such a different feel and facing length that it results in a much different approach. I had my JJ DV for a few months and never could get the sound I wanted (too nasal).

I'm not sure why you'd compare a DV NY to a LT Studio. They're quite different. I found the (regular) DV to be the only piece I played that day(Guardalas, SR Tech, Jumbo Javas, etc) that I could get along with but didn't do 500 dollars worth for me. They all sounded like ME.

He compared the DV NY to the Studio because of all the rave reviews of the DV. Now I'm wondering if it's the DV NY or regular DV people were raving about.

I tried a NY and a regular DV side by side, I liked the regular DV better. I havent tried a Gaurdala, but from what I know of them the DV is going to be far more like them than the DV NY.

I did really like the DV though!!

The DV is a big booming piece. I tend to like the Guardala Studio though. Very easy to play piece with a lot of volume (without the brightness) when needed.

I found the MBII is similar to a DV - the MBII a little brighter - the DV more buzzy. Both excellent pieces, I give the MBII the nod as it was more reed friendly. I found I had to use harder than normal reeds on the DV to attenuate the buzz and handle the airflow.
