I just watched it on Prime. (Every Night's a Saturday Night-The Bobby Keys Story) I guess it's only available for pay elsewise. just so damn interesting. Texas to the LA Shindogs, Delaney and Bonnie to Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen. recording with George Harrison, Eric Clapton, John Lennon...Elvis... and of course the Stones. and all that wild touring with them. Harry Nilsson. Dr. John. Carly Simon. Chuck Berry. Donovan. Joe Ely. Faces. Warren Zevon. Humble Pie. Marvin Gaye. B.B. King?

Edit: no love for Bobby Keys? man. y'all are a tough crowd.

Much love for Bobby Keys here, and thanks for the tip. Huge inspiration for me in wanting to play rock and roll saxophone. I was dragged out the basement by my good friend to start playing R&R saxophone instead of Hal Leonard play-alongs specifically to play Brown Sugar - my first big signature solo. A fellow saxophone player told me-"that's one of those iconic solos you have to play just like the record"; apparently Mick told Bobby that as well. I still love getting a chance to play it. I've based a solo with a guitar player when we play Get Ready on Can't You Hear Me Knockin'. I still want to play Whatever Gets You Through the Night and The Letter out some day.

As soon as I saw your post I watched it, very enjoyable. I've also read the book by the same name.

Might try posting it in the "Rock 'n Roll Saxophone" section of SOTW. Maybe a little more response hopefully;

Many millions have grooved to the energy in his iconic solos. Probably more than any other sax player in history.

I caught it on Prime and enjoyed it very much. He was a very likable guy, and it seems that contributed significantly to his success as a working musician. There's a lesson in there, I think. Sure he was a hell-raiser also (the story of how he got fired from the Rolling Stones is a great example) but he lived a bit of a charmed life. And I think it's undeniable that he played his style of saxophone 100% convincingly.
