I'm so glad there are more late bloomers on this stie than elsewhere. I am 28 years old, married and live in southwestern ontario, Canada
I was finding mostly kids learning how to play
I am new to the saxophone. I played the alto clarinet and bass clarinet in school from grade 6-12. I was in the school band, and played in the Legion band as well, as I was an Army Cadet! Since the end of highschool I haven't touched anything but piano, and I am not very good..lol. I am excited to get back into palying music. I tinker on the piano once and a while but I can only play right hand or left hand.. lol not at the same time.. Anyway..
I am still waiting on arrival of the Alto Saxophone actually. I did not get the best of saxophones, but I am using the cheap model in order to prove to those around me that I really am interested and excited about playing. I am getting an Alto Sax, cause it seems that is most common for learning on, but I like the smooth low sounds of the Tenor, and hope to have both one day.
It's not that I am being discouraged from playing, its just that I don't have a very musical family, and they think I am on a whim. My husband doesnt want me to invest hundreds of dollars on something I am "learning". Pretty much I have been given the same sort of deal you would give your children.. prove you can and will play this cheap one and we will think about getting you a better model.
I just hope that it plays "good enough" to practice the fingering and techniques.
I look forward to discussing all things saxophone with you.
Amanda
I have been reading the boards and find them most helpful in learning more about saxophones in general.
