A while back I did a gig in Amsterdam with a techno DJ (luke Slater - Planetary Assault Systems). I do very very little live work these days, but it seems I now have another one with the same outfit.

This one is at London's Fabric club, and again I will be playing quite free stuff along with the DJ's build ups.

Luke just nods at me when to start playing and then nods again when to stop, or if I miss the nod I get a more robust signal, a tap on the shoulder or maybe a gently kicking.

I'll be playing the Two Voices tenor, along with my $20 clipon mic and ear protectors.

The whole thing includes live video projected onto a gauze in front of the stage, quite a show really.

If anyone from here is likely to be there let me know.

I'll fly over for it if you set fire to the DJ

I hope there aren't too many of those flashing light thingies. They might give poor Pete a nasty headache.

It is a bit like real honey or raspberry jam over industrial sliced bread. The taste of the 21st century....

Is there any interaction, e.g. you might play something and he'll respond by changing the mix, or is it all one way with you responding to his choices?
Currently it's all one way, I just play for a bout 30 secs on a couple of build ups.

We may do something more interactive in the future, but basically he is doing a live show of his latest album, but adding a couple of bits of live saxophone.

he could easily do something interactive, he is doing the whole set using Ableton Live. Alternatively I'm thinking of getting a looping pedal.

Or he could sample bits of my playing live and loop it, that might be fun.

Exactly. Play one riff then put your feet up and enjoy a nice cup of tea.
Well, that's more or less what I'll be doing anyway, I play about 2 minutes in the 90 minute set.

Sometimes DJ's will vary the turntable speed to change the tempo, it can be a mess intonation wise if you're caught in between two pitches.
This DJ doesn't use turntables, it's a live techno mix so no records or CDs to worry about. What I play is quite atonal, I don't need to think about keys or pitches too much.
