Anyone have any latin/afro-cuban/samba/mambo/mamba type songs that they would recommend? Anything works really; we're gonna slap an upbeat Latin percussion second behind it.

Any and all suggestions accepted; thanks.

PS: The group is a female vocalist(mezz-soprano), an alto sax, a tenor sax/clarinet/flute, a bari sax/flute, a trumpet, a keyboard player, a bassist, a guitarist, a drum set fellow, and a 2 latin percussionists.

That's sort of a wide category there...am not sure if you mean sorta Jazzy stuff, or Salsa-y stuff.

This is a pretty good list for Salsa (some Latin Jazzers on there):

Some Jazz songs which jump to mind (but they are instrumental) are Mambo Koyama by Art Pepper and the Cape Verdean Blues by Horace Silver. Also the Hank Mobley version of Recado Bossa Nova is pretty smokin'. That was a staple of my old quintet....

More contemporary.....I always liked 'Corazon Espinado' from the 'Supernatural' Santana album, that tune recorded with Mana (a very good band) ...technically, it's a cha-cha, actually.....you can work up a hella horn arrangement for it....and your guitarist would certainly kiss you for it.....

And your Baritone player will kiss you if you do Los Lobos' "Cumbia Raza"....or "Chuco's Cumbia"....
