JazzSmart is pleased to see the return of Andy Scott, saxophone tutor at one of the UK’s leading conservatoires, the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), is leading a two day workshop on saxophone ensemble playing. Located on the Dorset/Hampshire border on the 8th and 9th August we hope to see you there!

Andy Scott has performed all over the world, with the award winning Apollo Saxophone Quartet (est.1985 RNCM) and his group SaxAssault. He performs with Caliente, a trio with flautist Clare Southworth and harpist Lauren Scott, and in a duo with RNCM Tutor of percussion, Dave Hassell. For many years Andy has freelanced with the Halle Orchestra, Psappha & Apitos. He is co-Artistic Director with Rob Buckland of the annual RNCM Saxophone Day, founded the World Tenor Saxophone Consortium in 2003 and launched the Tenor Saxophone Index, a new online repertoire resource, in 2012 (with an RNCM Small Research Grant).

Andy will bring along his own compositions and arrangements, focusing on ensemble playing, but also with opportunities for solo/smaller group playing too. There will also be sessions on how to practice, what to practice, mental preparation for performance, and the physical and psychological sides to a ensuring a good performance. Any saxophonist wanting to improve regardless of genre should attend this workshop to further hone their sight reading, technical ability and general understanding of ensemble playing.

Set at the perfect venue, the Durlston Court School, the price for this two day workshop is only £120, including a hot lunch and refreshments.

Entry requirements flexible, but as a general rule Grade 4 and above is recommended.

We also (to be confirmed) have some new elements to the workshop including being able to try/buy saxophone merchandise and have your saxes checked over and repaired!

Please see our website www.jazzsmart.com for further details, email us at [email protected], or call us on 07708 091675.

Spaces strictly limited so book early to avoid disappointment!

We can also help with recommending reasonable places to stay, other local information etc.
