I'm considering the AMT Q7 LS Mine, which has the transmitter and mic in one unit; this clamps to the bell as with the other AMT mics.

This thing is reported as "heavy." I have a Selmer Mark VI and a Conn New Wonder tenor, the latter is perhaps of softer metal.

Any reports of the clamp damaging bells due to weight?

Also, is this setup, at twice the price of the Samson AWX ($769 versus $349) worth it? And, does it pick up ambient noise (I've heard that it does...).

My current purpose is recording outside, in a city, where there are lots of noises, cars, etc. I made one recording with the Samson and I was able to isolate well, and the transmitter sits sideways to the bell, so no damage.

Just wondering if all the hype about the sound of the AMT is "worth it."

Thanks!

I currently have (on trial) the following:

Sennheiser XSW 1-908

Samson AWX

These are $349.... Any thoughts about these (and versus each other)?
I've got an old Portrait Chu Berry. Not in the current rotation. Hasn't been out of the case in years. It ain't that fragile though. :)
Currently using an AWX. Have an iSolo Prime on order. Highly doubtful any clip would do any real damage. 20 years ago I had an AKG C409. IIRC that clip was pretty stiff. Never hurt anything.

My stands and neck straps have caused more wear and tear than anything else.

This thing is heavy enough that some players have reported that it is actually fatiguing when used with soprano. And just to look at it, it looks like it could cause damage. I don't want to hurt either of my horns, they are pristine (OK, my Mark VI has little finish left after 47 years of playing it, but there isn't a dent on it).

I have the Samson AWX - it doesn't have this problem. I think it sounds fine, but it's the first wireless I've used.

Why are you switching to the iSolo Prime? I've never heard of it. Thanks....

just adding it for fun and as a backup. I like that it has built in eq and effects. The harmonizer presets look like fun.

Never liked the look of the AMT clamp. The electronics look almost like a repackaged Samson Airline setup. Their mic is supposed to sound great though.

I don't like the fact that the transmitter hangs off the end of the clamp. That HAS to add weight! I'll check out the iSolo...
