Has any one tried the alto sax on a lullaby? Does it work?
(Experiences and insights appreciated. Thanks)

I think paul desmond did somewhere over the rainbow at one time or another...I bet it would be excellent on tenor though.

The reason I'm asking is I've been tasked to do a solo before the vocalist.

Can someone please try playing the sop part of this piece with alto sax.

http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/tinig/duyan-sheet.htm
The title is "Ugoy sa Duyan" (roughly translated "rock-a-bye"). Password is: tinig

I've transposed it from G to E (the vocalist will be singing in G with piano accompaniment) and it sounds okay. But I need a second opinion.
Thanks very much for the help.

Yep, lullabys are easy on alto sax or soprano. Tenor too, really. All you have to do is good breath control and pianissimo playing.
It would sound very nice on the upper register of baritone as well.
