Hi, I'm fairly new to alto playing coming from clarinet. I'm enjoying playing the alto but it's a much louder instrument than I'm used to. Can anyone recommend a mouthpiece/reed combination that produces a lower volume? I'm just looking to get a softer, quieter sound out of it. Imagine the alto leaning more toward a "clarinet" style sound. That's what I'm envisioning and hearing in my head. I'd like to find a mouthpiece and reed that, together with my physiology and technique, will hopefully produce that sound.

Get a mouthpiece designed for classical music. Selmer "LT", a Caravan or a Rascher (all are hard rubber)
