hi everyone, i own a selmer usa alto saxophone, and i've been playing the mpc that came with it for about 5 years now, and i figured that it's time i changed (thank god!)

i mainly play jazz and funk but also some soul.
i would also like to develop a sound with an edge in it for good solo improvisations.

any suggestions?

A Meyer 5M or Richie Cole might fit the bill for ya, people often times associate these mouthpieces with straight ahead jazz or classic jazz; Phil Woods, Lou Donaldson, Cannonball Adderly:). But I have had tremendous success with my Meyer 5M in contemporary jazz, so has Grover Washington Jr, and even Richie Cole has pleanty of edge when he needs it;). The altissimo is not an issue with the Meyer either, making it an excellent choice for jazz, funk and soul:thumbrig:.

Just remember no mouthpiece will solve all your problems, many of the issues we run into as saxophonists are our own inconsistancies. The only thing that truly sharpens our technique is PRACTICE:homework:, so I say give the Meyer 5M a try.
