I have the opposite: altissimo that just annoys me. Case in point, Art Pepper. I've just listened to a lot of AP straight through: the Complete Galaxy Recordings, the Hollywood All Star Recordings, and Unreleased Art, Vol. 3: The Croyden Concert. He pops out an altissimo note or two just to do it. It's neither melodic nor necessary, and really messes with the flow of his solos. It's more like "look what I can do!" He did it quite a bit across those sets, especially the live recordings.

The skill to do all that muti-phonic stuff is admirable for certain, but it's just too painful and unpleasant to listen to for my taste.
