Just a heads up. I just looked on Ebay and although there was one that sold for $410 earlier, right now there is another with a tonaline alto mpc available and right now the bid is at $16. If I was interested I would bid on it but I'm not so I thought you would like to know and maybe no one will notice and you can get it alot cheaper than the other one went for. Of course the bidding closes on the 27th, but give it a shot anyway, what do you have to lose?

the ishimori woodstone ligature looks great but it is the worst ligature I've ever owned...it doesn't hold the reed on well...if I adjust the mouthpiece on the cork, this reed always comes loose.

:crybaby:

Constant complaining from you...boo hoo!!!!!!!!

This is a super collectible for collectors. If you knew ligs, you'd know that.
I understand a player isnt going to want to spend $1000 on a lig...and they don't need to, but a collector looking for the rarest lig out there will.

...and yes, it is the RAREST OF THE RARE!!!

Who collects ligs? I mean, I like a good ligature as much as the next guy, but still. I gues it takes all types to make the world go round...

Aw...now I feel sad for poor 10mfan. Take it easy on the guy, eh? ;)

(I mean, a guy has to make a living somehow, even if he does charge $1000 for the RAREST OF THE RARE ligatures...! :D )

I don't blame 10m at all. If I had one of those babies and I could turn it over for a grand, hell, I'd be ebaying tonight.

And I'm glad, VERY glad, that he makes it clear (in this thread, and to a degree in the auction) that the value of the lig is based on its value for collectors, not players. I will NEVER understand collecting stuff as trivial as ligatures. Ever. But I'm not a collector.

As far as a good lig goes, I use the Francois-- which is still crazy expensive as far as I'm concerned, at sixty bucks-- and love it. The standard Selmer ligs really do work great, though, for cheap. I love a good Bonade as well.

Pretty much everything BUT a Rovner. That's the only lig I've ever used that I just really, really, really hated. But I like my sound big, free, open, and buzzy. If you're not into that then I'd try one out. Can't speak for the ED, I need to point out, never tried one... maybe they're better because of the plate.

Ligs, pez dispensers, legos, coins, stamps, watches,...you name it and people collect 'em.
voila...ebay! :)

You dont need to spend alot of money to get a lig that works for you. I use a lig thats a no-name and it works fantastic for me. Probably worth $2...maybe.

Collectibles are just that...collectibles.

To most players who just want a working lig, the Brilhart lig is CRAZY priced, and to collectors...its not.

Complaints about what SBA's are going for, what ligs are going for, what mouthpieces are going for, etc.....

Yada yada yada.

I dont to sell a lig for $1000 to make a living...I do quite well otherwise, thank you. :)

I do bust my *ss finding the rarest sax stuff out there...and I succeed at it. I know what pieces are worth and I find the best stuff out there.

I sell to the BIGGEST names in the sax world because I get the goods...plain and simple.

If a piece isnt for you, dont buy it. If a price is too high for you, dont buy it.

...but stop the whining, it's gotten old already.

Separate the collector and the players view point on pricing and you'll be more at peace.

I know who my clients are for certian pieces, and this lig will go to a collector. No player needs to buy a $1000 lig, I assure you!

I am not whining!!!!!!! I just want to know what plays and responds similar to one of those ligs that's not hundreds of dollars! What is an equivalent in terms of functionality? I am not a collector, I tried to be, but for a college student it's kind of pointless.

I will give the ultimate lig a try, as well as the standard selmer, thanks for the recommendations so far.

The whining wasnt directed at you Lefty...it was to Mango, who has a history of negative postings. He put the auction link up here to try to bust my balls a bit, as he tried to do a couple of weeks ago with me. This is typical of his behavior, so no surprise here. There are a couple of guys here who seem to have nothing better to do with their time.
So be it...
Business is fantastic, and I'm at the post office sending out pieces 5 days a week. :)

Peace

Hey dude, if I had a $1000 lig I would sell it too. It just seems like an unusual thing to collect, and this is coming from a guy who collects everything you mentioned (to an extent).

And apparently Kenny Garrett needs to use a $1000 lig:) .
