I was using 2.5 vandoren blue box and 2.5 alexanders felt just a smidge softer, a bit more edgier (because they were softer?) but responded great, and when I follow the instructions that come with it I've never had a dud. I'm using size 2.5s on my Morgan 3C (I use soft reeds)

Reeds are reeds...just use whatever works.
