I am getting a lot of resistance out of my vandoren AL-3 mpc. Im using it with Vandoren traditional 3 1/2 reeds, and an optimum ligature. Any suggestions on getting it to have less resistance and become more "free-blowing"?
A few things...what kind of horn are you playing it on? What mouthpiece did you use before? These things make a big difference because those mouthpieces tend to have more resistance with, say, the Reference horns than a Yamaha. Also, if you are going from a mouthpiece like a C*, the AL3 has a much closer facing, so you might need a different reed.
I know a very accomplished player (a sax prof) who switched from a C** with a 3.5 to the AL3 with a 3.0. Seems counterintuitive with the closer facing, but it works for him.
