I was wondering if anyone know if these were made? by who? and what are good websites to purchase this Item?

Is it better for me to get the protec straight soprano case or the ritter soprano case?

p.s this is all about the EWI 4000S

I use the Protec soprano case, and it works great. From the forums I've read, that seems to be the case of choice.
As far as a stand... I haven't seen one specifically made for an EWI... a lot of people build their own using PVC pipe/tubing and a little hardware, and attach it to an existing sax stand like an extra soprano peg, or just its own stand.
Check out the Windcontrollers forum on Yahoo, TONS of info on this kind of stuff.

I use the protec soprano case. It works great. I fully expected it to be like a typical sop case with the insides sorta shaped like a sax, but that wasn't the case (no pun intended) at all.

I can take a pic of it if you want..

Not a problem. The two blocks inside of the case (you can see them in the 2nd pic) are made of foam, have velcro on the sides and are adjustable to move forward or backward.

If you need more info, let me know.

You one funny guy, you.:D

Since the OP has gotten a good answer, I'd like to ask a question about the EWI. Do you use the onboard sounds or midi it to another synth?

I would like to see how cool it would be to midi it to my Kurzweil 2500.

Actually, I bought mine from another SOTW member that had the Patchman sound banks already loaded on it. I'm pretty much just using the patchman sounds, but am finding a strong desire to get another sound module like a VL-70m or Roland JV-1010/XV2020 for other instrument emulation. I never thought it'd have appeal to me, but I'm coming up to the point where I'm thinking it could be really useful.

It looks like Patchman has a set of windcontroller patches in soundbank #2 available for the Kurzweil, so IMO, if you want to midi it up to your keyboard, I'd probaly look at this route. I didn't see a set of samples available to listen to, but you might ask Matt if he'd put some up for you.

Patchman looks like he has some pretty cool mouthpieces and reeds for the EWI/K2500!

Thanks a bunch for the link:thumbrig:

For what it's worth, less than $20 and one hour got me this stand for my Akai 4000s. 3.4" PVC fits neatly over a clarinet peg on my sax stand. The use of 1/2" PVC seen in the pictures below is only because those were the parts available at the hardware store I went to, and I didn't want to spend all afternoon driving around town. The only issue I am having has to do with balance. If the EWI is on the stand by itself it tends to want to tip if the stand legs are not positioned appropriately. Introducing an angle in the upright piece would move the center of gravity appropriately. I may give that a shot for version 1.2 if I ever build it. But for a first try I'm pleased with the results.

Potiphar's Patented Perfect EWI Perch

This idea for a stand is an adaptation of a standard K&M sax stand. Not only is it cheap and compact, but it'll work with line/midi leads connected.

Materials were 15X2mm aluminium strip (21.8cm folded into sides of 3.9-4.0-5.8-4.2-3.9cm) drilled at the ends to take a 6mm bolt and wing nut. I can switch back to using it for my alto without even removing the bracket. Total cost about £2.50.

I could make a fortune if I hadn't given the secret away.

Although this is an old thread, I though it was worth adding a link to an EWI stand made from a guitar stand and a drummers cup holder:

http://selmerakt.wordpress.com/2008/03/26/ewi-stand/#comment-23

I've bought the guitar stand (from Dawsons) - they have a Stagg one with a neck safety bar for £14.99, and I have a local Dawsons shop. It's called Stagg Tripod Guitar Stand Black

http://www.dawsons.co.uk/stagg-tripod-guitar-stand-black

The recommended cup holder can be found in quite a few UK online shops, but you have to search for "Gibraltar Soft Drink Holder". I've ordered one from Andertons Music for £12.99+£5 for delivery.

There are cheaper cup holders with a clamp for a mike stand, or a baby buggy / push chair, but most of them don't give any measurements, and don't seem to be made of a soft material like that one.

The guy who wrote that thread recommends the ProTec "Pro Pac" Soprano sax case (model 310) for the EWI4000s. I'm sticking with the box for now because I never take mine anywhere, but the stand will be good to have.

I have my clarinet on a stand, already set up with a fibracell reed, so I can just pick it up and play it whenever I want without having to assemble it and fiddle with it first.

I made one of those out of the guitar stand and cup holder. It works great. The thing I like about it is that the guitar stand has a strap across the rest at the top (like Andy mentioned) so that if I'm not using the EWI for a while I don't have to worry about it getting knocked off the stand. Also, because it is upright it doesn't take up much space.

I don't wish to knock Saxrax (though I found their Flash based website almost impossible to use, and I didn't get an answer when I asked about the price and a UK supplier). I'm sure it's a fine product but mine cost me a total of £32.98 GBP (about $50?), using aaron's recipe from http://selmerakt.wordpress.com/2008/03/26/ewi-stand/

Okay, I'm a cheapskate, but I think it's a really good stand - nice an solid, and doesn't take up a lot of room. I'm also lazy, so instead of taking a picture of my own stand and EWI, I've borrowed one of aaron's:

Couch Musical instrument Light Comfort Flooring

Mine looks identical though, just with scruffier furniture in the background :)

I keep a polyester scarf draped over mine, as a dust cover. It cost me exactly £1 GBP (about $1.60) from Poundland.
