Ok, so I've been playing on my AL4 for a few years now, and I'm getting frustrated. I think this mpc is extremely picky and whatever I do, I can't seem to remove the airy sound I have with this mpc. I play on blue box #3 and #3.5. I have played on Soloist C*(my friend's) and my older S80 C* (now has a scrape down the middle of the baffle) and I get a clear sound but it's too bright. So does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
I would first check the ligature. Perhaps it is not holding the reed tightly on the table. Beyond that, I would suspect an uneven table or improper rails. Have you tried another AL4 to compare?
I use a Charles Bay lig with the additional padding. and I haven't had a chance to test another AL4.
And I usually shave my reed down if the reed ends up being too hard to make the reed more comfortable to use.
