i'm getting my bass clarinet repadded this summer, and i'd like to get the keys/etc redone in black nickel (the current plating is nickel). from using the search button, i've gathered that bn plating is very thin and goes over regular nickel.

questions:

1. would it be possible to plate over the top of an existing older nickel finish? (tarnished and worn off in places) or would i have to have the existing plating removed first?

2. who does it? (extensive googling and sotw searching reveals nothing)

3. anything else i should know?

You can have black nickel plated over the existing plate, but tidy it all up where it has worn so it's all nice and smooth.

Where do you live?

I know of some plating companies in the UK that can do black nickel plate.
