I am finding that the adhesive has weakened on some of the patches that have been sitting in my drawer for a while.
Any suggestions for an adhesive that I can safely use to revitalize them?

That should not really happen. What brand are they? I would contact the manufacturer to get replacements.

Thanks. Not sure what brand as they are no longer in original packaging.

I was thinking of contact cement but was not sure about toxicity.

by "a while" did you mean months or years? don't revitalize them, throw them away.
I've had similar issues with patches from different brands, including some big names like BG. over a decade+ some degraded badly with the adhesive hardening stuck to the mouthpiece and almost permanently damaging some of my HR mouthpieces.

That would concern me also. I wouldn't use contact cement. Plus it's messy.

Get some 3M clear patches; they have very good adhesive and will stick well to any mpc. I also like the Forestone patches which have a weaker adhesive that doesn't leave any residue when you remove them; they stick very well to HR mpcs, but don't stick well on metal mpcs.

that's not true. I love Forestone too. that's what I've been using for 3+ years now. they stick really well to my several STMs and STM-like metal pieces or even my Hibiki (metal beak, no built-in toothguard). actually I had trouble with them not staying put on two HR soprano pieces I have.

I do agree the Forestone seems to be finicky about the material and cleanness of the surface they are adhering to. but I wouldn't generalize HR vs metal. when they stick, they work really well. and they never wear out, while my teeth used to eat through traditional patches over months of use.

It's true, I eventually use temporary when wait new one, I like the transparents thin patches of the Vandoren. In this case a new one is the best choice, sorry my comment...

Yeah, I guess I shouldn't generalize, but I'm just reporting my own experience. I've used the Forestone patches on several HR mpcs over the past few years (RPC, 10mfan Robusto, Black Widow, Chameleon, and PPT ebonite) and the patches stuck well on all of them. But on the metals, a Tribute & Barone SNY, they tended to peel off, even when I cleaned the mpcs thoroughly.

I agree they never seem to wear out; I can't even find a dent in them where my teeth rest, even after months of playing.

Bottom line though, is there are plenty of patches, tape, etc that will work well without resorting to using contact cement.

Undoubtedly years.

I use this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/TapeCase-423...keywords=tape+case+uhmw&qid=1598907410&sr=8-1. A patch from this lasts about 6 months to a year.
I use a similar product from CS Hyde. I think I got mine on Ebay. Strong, durable, and can be cut to cover as much or as little of the bite plate as you wish. I have the CS Hyde in black, and a different brand in clear, but the clear doesn't seem to last as long. The only reason I've ever needed to remove the black material is when I need to take pics of the bite plate if I'm selling the piece.

I do round the corners a little, or else they do eventually pull up a little, but overall these things will stay in place until you remove them.

Just confirmed with my Amazon order history, the clear version I have is the same one skeller047 linked to. I prefer the CS Hyde, but it is a little more expensive.
