I have played a Jumbo Java A45 since years and I like the piece very much. Must say that I have a bunch of them and even almost all Vandorens were created equal, there are some little differences perceived from piece to piece.
I was asked about a comparison between the two and if it is of some help for anybody, here it goes.
I used my Series II Jubilee Alto with a Sterling Silver Pre Jubilee Series III Neck, Java Green Reeds No. 3 and a M/O ligature.
I have a Jumbo Java A55 and it is the only one I have of those, so what I found might be that particular mouthpiece and not the rule...
Both mouthpieces are very bright. Nothing new. Both deliver a huge volume and both reach a very solid and good altissimo. Cannot say anyone has an advantage even at G4. Maybe, just maybe the A45 reached it easily... but the A55 was very solid, too.
The low notes were kind of better with the A55. Not that much, but it delivers more power down there and low B, Bb are easier to blow.
The general sound, in my experience, the A45 has more of a buzz. This can be perceived at the mid of the horn and specially at the high B, C, D, E... (B3, C3, D3, E3). The A45 feels brighter and can feel with more edge than the A55 just there.
No tuning problem whatsoever with both mouthpieces. Both right in the money.
Overall, my guess and I am sure than experts here about mouthpiece anatomy may clarify it, is that the difference between the brightness they have, being the A45 just a little brighter, has to do with the facing. The A55 has a long facing length while the A45 has a medium long one. I didn't find altissimo easier with the medium long facing, but kind of brighter. With more edge.
Both mouthpieces delivered the same volume (115, 120, 117 dBA). Loud, loud, loud.
The A55 is more into the neighborhood of the timbre of the tenor Jumbo Javas and I do not say this for it being a wider tip opening mouthpiece, just has more of a Java sound than the Jumbo that the A45 has offered to me.
Ah.... and about split tones, both did great. F3, F#3 and G# loud and nasty split tones there.
I love both pieces.
I hope this may help somebody.
