Hello Dave...

Congrats on your decision to join the world of sax playing...

You'll find tons of information here on all things sax...

but it's no substitute for a good teacher...
you should still get some lessons by an instructor a.s.a.p.
It will prevent some mistakes that can cause more serious problems later on...

And don't worry about that 20 year bass-guitar thing...

we all make mistakes....;)

OK SAXXMAN you got a laugh out of me with the bass comment :)

The bass is a monster instument

BUT!!!!!!!!

Great Bass player + Blues = very bored great bass player.

I WANT TO BE IN FRONT SOLOING FOR 1/2 HOUR AT THE BAR!!!!! not playing the same 3 notes for three hours

Get it!

I am trying really hard not to double post and to check the threads before starting a new one.
If I fail at that task I humbly appologize!!!

I've played sax (off-and-on) 58 years and started bass guitar about three weeks ago. I know what you're going through. My first alto was a Holton Collegiate, literally 58 years ago, and I recently bought another one just like it for old times' sake paying under $200 for a good playing instrument.

As for my new musical pursuit with bass guitar, I bought a VOX Violin passive PUP 4-stringer, obligatory amp and a variety of instruction manuals/CDs/DVDs to learn how to play it. I also joined the talkbass.com forum and I'm facing the same big unknown you're facing with your new sax.

Hey man...just kidding about the bass thing...;)

I respect any musician willing to put in that much time...

And in my opinion...it's the bass player that makes or breaks a good Blues set..

So...now you can use this new, sax player equation...

Sax player + Sax (yep, just holdin' it) = the glory AND the girls...:D

No more boredom for you...

I am in northridge california right now just outside of LA.
We could trade lessons.
SERIOUSLY.
I was one of the best slappers on bass in my area.

I played in a progresive rock band.
I KICKED *** on bass.
afterwards the girls would swarm around the guitarist and vocalist.
the stinky guys would swarm around me and the drummer. EVERYTIME

Probably doesn't help that I look like shrek's older brother.
But I married so hell with it anyways!!!
