Okay...... I have been playing on my King C Melody in our church's orchestra for about six months now and the original case that it came in is totally inadequate for a working saxophone! There is virtually no padding and the instrument doesn't fit snug leading to opportunities for pads and keys to get knocked loose. What I need is a nice gig bag (I'm partial to Pro-Tec) but nothing really works for obvious reasons.
Does anybody have any solutions? I have given thought to modifying a tenor case but I don't feel competent to do the job myself. Are there any companies that will modify a tenor case out there?
I also thought of Aquilasax as they are currently manufacturing C Melody saxes and must have a new case for them. Do they offer them as a separate item and is there anyone in the states selling them? This, of course, supposes that a King C and an Aquilasax have the exact same dimensions.
Lastly, does anyone know if Pro-Tec or any of the other manufacturers make a case for a C Melody saxophone, even if it's a "special order?" I'm going to have to make a decision soon and any help would be appreciated.

It's pretty easy to modify an old case like yours using foam. Get some of the firmer type and simply cut to fit your horn. You can then glue it in place. Will not look pretty but will keep your sax in place.

the Aquilasax cases http://www.aquilasax.com/Accessories_sale.html wouldn't necessarily fit an older C melody with split bell keys.

Ask questions before you buy. DEG cases would fit but the horn but a C mel has a pretty loose fit in those unattractive cases . The advantage for someone like OP is that DEG is in the States and because of the shipping they would be, in all probability, considerably cheaper than Aquilasax cases.

I used a nice padded gig bag sized for tenor, and used it almost unmodified for C-mel. I put a slab of styrofoam under the bow for extra protection, and instead of a regular neck plug I used a piece of sprinkler pipe cut to the desired length. Then I wrapped the end in a couple layers of heat shrink tubing to make it fit snugly into the neck tenon. This is what kept the horn from sloshing about in the case.

My Aquilasax hardwood case for C-Melody just came in and WOW! This case is everything I could have hoped for! The letter that accompanied the case said that it was designed to fit the CONN C-Melody. They say that a King is slightly larger and that a Martin is longer. I have a King and the fit is snug but not to the point where I would have to force anything. In fact, it's perfect! There is extra room at the top (possibly to accomodate a Martin?) In any case (no pun intended), the Aquilasax's hardwood case is perfect for my King and finally gives it the protection that it deserves! If you're toting around a 90 year old case because there's nothing else available, well, now there is!! It's worth the investment!
