This one is about to be sold on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/27083553292...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_1476wt_689

It looks like a chu to me, but it has the naked lady engraving and 8M engraved above the serial number.

I thought that it is an interesting piece of history, and probably one of the very last Conn C melodies.

Not cool enough for me to spend money on it, since it probably sounds just like my chu, regardless of the engraving. :bluewink:

That's a pretty late S/N (284397). I have access to an Art Deco engraved Conn, but it's only 2366xx.

The one in the eBay listing is interesting as it has a straight neck (typical of all the later Conn Cmels), but the Art Deco engraved one I mentioned has a curved neck - and what appears to be an original contoured case.

Since I haven't seen any other Conn Cmel's with S/N that high, I wasn't sure if Conn "switched back" or not.

It appears that this oi one of those special order horns and was made in 1938. Conn would make a Soprano, bass or C as late as 1969. I have a gold plated C that is a Chu but has a serial number from about 1922. Always some odd ones! That price for this one that sold is waaay too much. Not that nice either. I have a fantastic gold plated Virtuoso that wouldn't bring that much!

Nonetheless, it was a pretty breathtaking price for a C-mel.

This horn was made not too long after my curved soprano (#2848xx, also silver). There were at least 2 other curveds made in '38, IIRC.

My Naked Lady C is #274xxx and lacquered. It does not have the "8M" stamp, but is otherwise identical.

Did you pay $2500 for it?

I'll be the eBay seller had a very happy day! I'll bet he had no idea what he had in his hands! He describes the Naked Lady as an "Engraved Lady".

My 26' Chu is exactly like that horn sans the naked lady engraving. It plays like a dream, those modern palm keys really help!
