A DG Super King with a Super 20

I had ordered several Alto mouthpieces from WWBW on trial. I got the guy to throw in a Super King for Tenor. He said they don't normally mix the two but did it anyway. Seemed like a nice guy, cut the shipping down as well. Ordered this at the end of August.

Becasue of back-orders on the 2 alto pieces I just received them the other day. Took the DG Tenor out of the box, the top of the body was scrached (probably from the ligature). This was supposed to be a new or like new item, it wasn't. I called them the next day, they noted it on my account and said they won't charge me anything if I return the piece (aside from the cleaning, etc). Also, if I buy it, they would cut a break on the price. I didn't ask how much, I should have and will.

Anyway - I played it last night. Wow, now I have to repaint the living room. :D This thing was killer, all edge (I'm playing a SR Fusion 115 currently). I had a little trouble controlling it in the beginning, but got better over time. It didn't really work well for me on the low end. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. I get plenty of edge out of the SR, granted not as much, but it also has a mellow side which I like. The Super King would be great in rock bands, which I play a lot in. I have a few days on the trial, I'll see if I can tame this thing a little...........decisions, decisions, decisions.

One other thing, I though it was a very well made piece. Good workmanship. Couldn't use the ligature though, if I tried, I would have put more scratches on it. The Rovner I use on the SR fit just fine.

In my early days I played a nice Dukoff SM7* with a silversonic tenor. Altissimo was like shoving an ice pick in someones forehead. But, that's what I was going for at the time...

WAAAA! Hilarious!

:D
iwould keep it -you wont find a better mpc for this type of playing. the lazer trim one i have is actually a better player than the old hand made one i had but sold for 500$
Yeah - I played again, it's starting to grow on me. I should have taken to a gig last night but I didn't. I'm on the fence with this one. I have to find out how much of deal they would give me since it's scratched up. It might make the decision a little easier.
I just got one of the DG Kings from WWBW...not because I needed it, but because I figured they will never be that low-priced again!!! That said, it's growing on me...gonna use it with my Super20 on some upcoming outdoor parties and see if I can't scare the dogs...the paint in my studio does seem to be suffering, though...
