Time to stop hiding ....
Here goes.
I'm quite interested to see what people think about this, did I stray too far?

It's just a play along I bought a couple of years ago and naturally it comes out around this time.
At home acoustically it always sounds pleasant enough and captures the spirit so I recorded it straight.
Yikes it was horrible...very boring too. It lost everything.
So I tried a few more times, abandoning my fear and little by little drifting from the written note values into something slightly more lyrical and playing about with my tone.
Have your self a merry little Christmas
At best its Webster...ish I like it but I have no idea if it grabs anyone else..

Very nice...lovely tone and tasteful vibrato. I tend to agree a little with saxmusicguy about that one phrase being pushed, but only because it's a melody that we tend to silently sing or hum along with in our head, and that pushed phrase comes as a surprise. Technically, that push actually works out quite well if you're just listening casually and not trying to follow the melody as you're used to hearing it. It only seems out of place if you know the song a little too well (which everyone does). Nice job.

Nice tone. Nice song choice. It goes to show that often, less is more. I agree on the timing of that one phrase. It just didn't sound right. But for a while I kind of drifted off and found myself lost in the tune thoroughly enjoying it.

Thank you all for your comments, I really appreciate it.
I'll have a listen to the tune with words as I never really have. Can't say I've never heard it but other than the odd phrase I couldn't recite it so thats partially responsible for my timing there.
Now the trouble is if I listen to it and agree with the observations (which I'm sure I will) then I'll probably start to dislike the effort! [rolleyes]

Hey! I would steal your abilities if I could. Great job, you have a superb phrasing and most of all you have a great musicality, which is the most important thing. I envy this kind of playing. Great job.

Tell me how do you do that, how long have you been playing?

Well that comment was a thread killer! I assure you, I did not intend it as a disparaging remark.
LOL!!!!
I don't think you should take that personally and thanks for the 'BUMP' ....I can see why it would remind you of that version, especially given that we are not swamped with versions (unless you go looking).

Thank you very much Walkman1
That was a RJS 3S reed fresh out of the box, sometimes I find virgin fresh reeds can have 'Je ne sais quoi' or a certain something more in the core maybe? yet aren't too stiff to blow straight away. I always liken that something to the ring in the middle of Websters sound.
The rest of the set up is my MKVI and a Stainless berg 105/2/M with an SM58 mic 8" or so from the bell. Credit to the beefy berg for tackling this end of the range as well as the more raucous stuff.
I'm an amateur with 22 years of pub gigs as experience, no musical training as such. I'd be lucky to pass grade 5 with out further study.

Thanks for the info, I can never sound anything I want to sound like on my alto. Well I got even more scared and frustrated when I realized it takes years and many of them to sound like you. Where can I find more music from you?

This is from me to you.
