Anyone know the story of Thad Jones' composition, "A Child Is Born"? That's a lovely tune, and I especially like it 'cause I have a new baby in the house (7 mo. old already). A reviewer on Amazon of the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis album Consummation says it was dedicated to his daughter. (Maybe that is the whole story, huh?) Just wondered if anyone knows more about the origins of the tune. And who wrote the lyrics?

Can't help with the song, but congratulations (and welcome back)! Getting much sleep?

Hey, Rory! Thanks for the grats--and it's good to be back, learning about saxes again. Sleep? (Yawn.) Oh, that... now I remember.

sorry to wake up a very old thread....
I always thought, "a child is born" is a christmas song.
Mcudahy - your son/ daughter should have his/her 12th birthday these days (if I counted right and you're still around)?
