Here's something we did tonight which is probably the first recording of my Barone sop I've been kinda happy with.

I've only played soprano for just over a year, a few unstable bits but it's a work in progress. In the second chorus I jumped back on the 36 as I wasn't sure it was working, after listening to the recording I thought it was OK.

You are really coming along. I'm very impressed with your soprano sound. It sounds like playing your soprano is helping your tenor sound as well. You upper octaves are sounding a lot more stable than they used to. Good job man!

Thanks guys:)

It's a Barone Black Nickel. I ended up going back to Phil for the mouthpiece also which is a HR in a 7 opening. I'm using Jazz select 2H.

Storm - I still hate my tenor top notes above A2, but I think they have improved slowly. I no longer bite up there - but something still isn't right in the oral tract I don't think when I go high. There's a tension that makes them kinda thin.

SaxPunter, I enjoyed listening to that. You have flashes of brilliance in your tone, and when you slip a little, it's not too far off. It might be time to take that "I'm an imposter" tag off your signature line. When you relax and cut loose a bit, you sound particularly great. If you close your eyes and listen to it, I think you'll hear what I'm hearing. Maybe you're just holding off a little air, or letting your breath support falter a bit, when you try to hold onto a note sometimes. But man, overall I thought that sounded great!

Thanks guys :)

Support is something I've worked with my teacher on, I don't think I do enough long tones if I'm honest with myself, along with that some of my articulation is sloppy at times... A bit of a ffwaw sound to start notes, which he'd also pointed out recently.

The tenor piece is a new vintage slant in a 7 opening, it's the best responding piece I've tried and I'm digging the tone.

It's good to know the work is paying off, I only get about an hour a day at best. I've really concentrated on setting small goals in the time I have available, where before I'd practice what I already knew or just noodle.

I'm happy to remain the imposter! There's so many outstanding players here any advice I could give should come with caveats

Cheers
