Hey everybody,
I’ve been playing a Greenline R13 fir the last few years, and although I like it I have felt it is a bit heavier than my old wood r13. Anyhow, I tried some of Ryan Perreira’s 3D bells a while back and I liked the decrease in weight but I wasn’t sure if the cost was worth the improvement. I recently saw the Windy City woodwinds 3D bell for $40 and figured I’d try it out. My impression is really favorable! First, it is a noticeable decrease in weight. So, positive on that. But I was surprised how much it changed how the clarinet felt in terms of resonance. Seems overall quicker to respond and more centered. I’m not sure if this equates to brighter or darker, but it feels great to play! I wondered if anyone can elaborate on if it’s the weight as the primary factor or if the design/shape of the bell has more to do with it.
