A pleasure to announce these new models from the big four (in reverse alphabetical order).

Yanagisawa: The release of the A-9939. Finally, the arrival of the solid silver pink gold-plated saxophone with real ruby key touches. Expect a sound that is brighter than solid bronze but a tad mellower than solid silver (i.e. rather like brass).

Yamaha: YTS-82Z-NWL (naturally worn lacquer). Realizing that the unlacquered in fact does not resemble real vintage finish, Yamaha has made a new plant with saxophone playing robots (with artificially sweaty palms) that play a (lacquered) YTS-82Z 24 hours a day for six months. The result is an old looking YTS-82Z at a 50% higher cost. It does come without high F# and with the new T1 neck.

Selmer: The Reference baritone. The model number is still to be determined. Only "Bird" models will be available and the first year will fly "The Albatross". It is essentially a Series II with significant improvements: no high F# and no low A. The low A tone hole has (also) been plugged and the bell has been cut shorter.

Keilwerth: A quiet year as far as innovations go. However, do anticipate three changes in ownership and a 50% price hike in the second and fourth quarters of 2008.

They'll be lining up to hang an "Albatross" around their necks! I predict a real winner there.

Ah! Well a-day! What evil looks
Had I from old and young!
Instead of the cross, the albatross
About my neck was hung!

Walsteins Walsteins everywhere,
And not a one did stink.
Walsteins Walsteins everywhere,
And every one was pink.

Sorry, I'm up to my neck in marking and as bored as that old sailor ever was!

Now who says there's no good work for performance majors!

Sorry again

I like the inclusion of the predictably massive price hikes for the cosmetic "improvements" forthcoming.

Yeah I'm with Dave. I actually got it when the ruby key touches were going to be put on the new Yanis. And of course the mixing and matching of expensive metals to create something that sounds just like brass for twice the cost.

The Keilwerth one was pretty good to. 50% up charge for nothing and the company changes hands many times.

Not one of the Big Four but still worthy of mention is Cannonball and their new contrabass addition to the Stone Series.

The Millstone, obviously...
And the earthtone finish contrabass with a concrete block set in the neck. . . gives amazing resonance to the tone.
