A fairly good group of players.
I get the impression they’ve played a little bit together. Maybe they would make it in the Jazz world…who knows???
I think there’s some potential there….. 🤣🤣🤣

Only about 1/3 of the way through the performance, but god I love Rufus' playing.

The whole group is insane. Absolute masters, showing how it’s done.

I was at two of those shows. It was even better in person. Each night each of those guys tore off a solo that was absolutely amazing.

Bro, what a treat to be able to be at those shows!!!
What an awesome memory that must be. We still need to do a lunch together, so be in touch with me so we can hang out.

Amazing. I did not catch them that year but heard the same group a few years later at Birdland - around 2003, if memory serves.

Incredibly Dave Liebman came and sat on my gig a while back when he was in town doing a clinic. I’ve known him for years from NYC. Thankfully he was in his tenor mode at that time.
When I asked him what he’d like to play he said, “I only know about 8 tunes” . I guess he was pulling my leg, but I let him call the tunes.
I like the jam session feel of the video.

What are they doing? Having a horn fight? Was the first part sort of a group warm-up? What's the point in having a 'cacophony' in front of a live audience? I've also seen similar shows where two three sax players would be off the stage but right beside it riffing like crazy while another guy is on stage trying to play.
