The new format includes, for a price of $19.99/year, access to Premium Forums to engage in Premium-only Discussions.

What are your ideas for forums that qualify for the Premium Experience?

I got some ads for blue pills. This would definitely be a subject for private discussions. Maybe not here though....

Market Place?
That's what they do at the AcousticGuitarForum, and there is no lack of traffic. Actually, anyone can view it, but seller's must pay $25/year to post in the Marketplace.

Okay this is screwed up! I have been a member since 2009 and it is telling me I have no access to write replies or post. Ridiculous.

Adding a pay to play premium discussion area is disgusting! I guarantee you will lose members if these are allowed to persist.

Only if you want to kill it.

Making the Marketplace available to subscribers only would likely reduce the number of viewers of any item for sale at least 100-fold. You'd starve the market.
Indeed. I was really thinking more like...

Even before the upgrade, I wondered why they didn't do something like that, maybe 5 free For Sales a year for casual users, after which you pay to advertise.

Remember, the site must earn it's keep..

I think a premium for accessing content is a terrible idea. I agree that a fee for posting in the marketplace is fine...that $25/ year Dr G mentioned would work. I’d add that a substantially higher fee for folks using the forum/ marketplace as a storefront should apply.
perhaps:
$2.50 for a single post
$25/ year covers 12 posts
Unlimited for $?? Buy advertising...🤷‍♂️
single item per post and no bumping rules still apply.

Ah, okay. I agree that having sellers pay a fee would be fine. But that's different from having a "premium discussion" topic that only premium members can access.
That is, it sounds like you're advocating a premium option, but not a premium discussion area.

Are there any premium discussions right now? Not sure what we'd be missing. I checked the threads I usually visit and I have access to the forums/groups and posts. And I can still create a new post.

What am I missing?

Whats going to be behind the paywall? If the site needs more cash flow, why not have sellers pay a flat fee per listing?

This site exist off the users providing the content, information is self policed by the group as well as admins and moderators to fight misinformation. Profiting off of members information seems egh. With that being said their are obvious cost to running a website such as SOTW, and I'm sure I'm not the only one noticing the sudden influx of google ads. This leaves me wondering what the purpose is besides revenue generation.
